The affiliate marketing newbie is inundated with so many ideas that the creative juices are put into overdrive and you just want to jump in and get going.

But wait newbie, there are certain things you must do before starting your business if you really want to succeed.

• Write out a plan:. The saying is true, if you fail to plan, you plan to fail. Write out your plan. How much time do you plan to spend each day developing your new business? How do you want the layout of your website to look? How do you plan to develop your business? What strategies do you intend to use to promote your website? How many articles a day, how tight is my niche, how much money do i want to spend to set up this business? Make a plan, take time to think about things before writing your plan down and determine to stick to the plan unless there is a very valid reason for changing course. Good reasons for deviating from your plan would be, not working, found an evidence based better way.
• Inspired niche selection: It is true that the key to success in your affiliate marketing business is niche research and niche selection. You must thoroughly investigate your niche before committing to it. Ensure it is sustainable and viable. You should spend a large proportion of time and effort in doing your niche research, review demand and supply to your chosen niche, find out if there are any products you can promote in that niche that will satisfy your prospective customers and determine if you can build on it
• Fix your budget: You must decide before hand how much money you wish to spend developing your online business and stick to it. It is very easy in the world of online marketing to buy products you will never use, or getting hosting accounts that are more expensive than you can afford because it has all those extra pretty features you will never need. Also if you intend to promote your website using pay per click advertising, you can end up paying hundreds of dollars if you do not keep an eye on the budget. The idea of affiliate marketing is to make you richer not poorer
• Decide that you are not going to buy every e book or training course out there. It is so easy to get caught up in buying this great e book and the other great training course. The content of a lot of these books is the same and, you may find that, the ones that tell you they have the secret, don’t have any secret at all. A lot of the information you need is free online, you just have to spend some time hunting it down. When you have learned all you can from free resources then you can invest in one course or book, implement all you learn from it before buying the next book
• Treat affiliate marketing as a real business: Have reasonable expectations. The business like any other business needs an investment of hard work and time to succeed and grow. Do not expect overnight success, it takes time for any business to grow
